As children continue their experience at Purcellville Children's Academy, new considerations are given to their increased attention span, activity level and the need to satisfy their curiosity. A more structured environment is created in the classrooms and the opportunities for exploration are increased.

Emphasis is placed on cognitive skills and our curriculum includes pre-reading activities, pre- mathematics, science, creative art, and music. Planned activities are used to reinforce the natural learning that is a part of every activity in a child's day. We encourage the children to learn by doing and experiencing, in a safe and well-supervised environment. We use age-appropriate field trips and other special experiences to expand the children's knowledge of the world around them.

Teachers read to children everyday either individually or in small groups and engage children in rhymes, songs and finger plays. The Pre-K environment is print-rich, with shelves labeled with pictures and words and children's names, and some items labeled in a foreign language representative of the children in the class.
